The first session on MATLAB conducted by the SPS chapter,IEEE SB CET had a turn out of around 30 students.Classes were handled by Vaishnav J of S5,EEE.The session was meant to be an introduction to MATLAB;its scope,applications etc.The greatly interactive session began at around 4:10pm and topics such as plotting and representation of several functions,functions included in the MATLAB package were covered.The software was also given out to all those who attended the session.The session ended by 6pm.


Today Power and Energy Society of IEEE was introduced in IEEE SB CET. The inauguration
ceremony commences with the welcome speech of Hrithu O A, Vice Chair of PES, SB CET. Er.
Harindarlal, chairman of IEEE PES Kerala Section lighted the lamp in the presence of Er. Biju,
Secretary of IEEE PES Kerala Section, Prof. P Sreejaya, staff in charge of IEEE PES SB CET and
Mr. Jerrin George James, chairman of IEEE SB CET. The future plans of our student chapter was
proposed by Mr. Praveen T A, chairman of PES, SB CET. Ms. Anusree T K, Secretary of PES, SB
CET felicitated the inauguration ceremony.

The inauguration ceremony was followed up by a workshop on ‘How to write and present
technical papers’. The workshop started with the introduction of Dr. Francis M Fernandez, senior
faculty of Electrical department, CET. The session was handled by Mr.K Chandramohan. He
explained key attributes and basic layout of a technical paper. Also illustrated some common
mistakes that might confront while preparing a technical paper and their corrections. During the
workshop the participants were made to modify their technical paper which they already
prepared according to the evaluation of a panel of judges. The workshop was concluded at 4:30
pm with the vote of thanks by Er.Biju, Secretary of IEEE PES Kerala Section.

Mock Placement Drive ’17


IEEE WIE CET Chapter conducted the Mock Placement Drive ’17 for all second year students to give them an experience on the placement process and to help them  equip  better with the skills needed to emerge successful in it.The competition, conducted on Aug 11, witnessed a participation of 35 enthusiastic students for the preliminary round which covered questions from subjective,logical reasoning, aptitude and general knowledge areas.All the participants were given the chance to attend the Group Discussion as this would help them assess their communication skills.They were divided into different groups and various topics were discussed.The event was conducted by third year IEEE members.


Based on their performance in both the rounds, 15 bright contestants were shortlisted for the final round.The interview was conducted by fourth year IEEE members Jerrin, Amal,Sai Lekshmi and Adarsh. At the end, Abhijith Nandagopal of Computer Science Department and Mathew Chetipuzha of Electrical Department emerged the ‘IEEE Emerging Student of the Year ‘17 ‘ while  Mathew George of Computer Science Department bagged the consolation prize.

The Signal Processing Society of the IEEE Student Branch CET was formally inaugurated on April 20, 2017 during the Annual General Body Meeting of our student branch.

The inauguration function began at around 4:15 pm with everyone rising for the IEEE Code of Ethics. The PES Chapter Advisor, Mrs.Sreejaya gave the plenary speech wishing the SPS Chapter a fruitful year ahead. This was followed by a traditional lighting of the lamp ceremony by Mrs.Sreejaya and the new SPS execom members after which the chapter was declared to be officially inaugurated.

The IEEE SB CET Chair gave a message and the new execom members took charge. The ceremony ended around six, with tea and refreshments being provided to all attendees.

Basics of C++ programming


The first session of IEEE WIE was held on 19 th April,2017.The session which was open for all, was on
the basics of C++ programming.C++ is an object oriented programming language which is highly
portable and is often the language of choice for multi-device,multi-platform app development.The
session which had a count of ten participants was started off by Megha Ben and continued by
Amrith. The session was begun with a “Why C++?”question following which the importance of the
language was explained.Programming basics like data types,functions,decision making and looping
were explained.
The session had Aishwarya Shankar,Dakshinaa and Sailakshmi as on spot volunteers.The session
which began at 4:30pm concluded at 6:00pm.The session garnered positive reviews with the
participants requesting for successive sessions.Plans for follow-up sessions are underway.

One Day Workshop on ARM processors

This session held on April 8th 2017 with a turn out of 19 participants from various departments and years,began at 9:15am.It began with participants being given a brief introduction to ARM,RISC and the 8051 microcontroller series.A demonstration on how to code the mbedLPC1768 AND mbedLPC11U24 ARM processors was given, following which participants engaged in a hands on interactive session.The following programs were tried out by the attendees:

* Timeout

* Ticker

* Busout

* Interrupt

* Digital In

* Digital Out

* Busout using LED

* 7 segment displaying

The session came to an end at 1:00pm.
