11 Reasons why i will never hire you – A talk by Arjun R Pillai

Arjun R Pillai, Vice Chair, Products & Services IEEE Young Professional conducted a session on the topic “11 reasons why I would not hire you “. As the title suggests the topic deals with how companies do their recruiting and how we as potential recruits should be facing the interview board. The session started with a small talk on RESUME. The speaker spoke at length about how a professional resume should look like. That it should be short and to the point. Then he went on to speak about the common mistakes made by candidates appearing in the interview like not asking questions to the interviewer, not dressing up well, avoiding eye contact with the interviewer, not presenting yourself to the interview board well etc. He then talked about the importance of doing an internship. He mentioned that out of all the resumes that an interviewer receives those with internship really stand out among the crowd. In the end came Hand Shakes. He stressed on the importance that handshakes have in interviews. He brought out one person from the audience and shook hands with him. He then talked about how a handshake should be and how important it is.

How to Turn Your Idea into a Paper

The session began with Tarun Sathesh, Chairman, IEEE RAS CET chapter, introducing the Speaker, Rejin Narayanan, CEO INGEN Robotics and Chairman IEEE RAS, Kerala Section. Rejin, himself, has published numerous papers in international conferences across the globe.   An enlightening session about the procedure in publishing a paper, how conferences differ and how important publishing in the right conferences for the right reasons is, followed. The session showed us the right way forward to publishing a paper. The crowd had a chance to clear their doubts in the interactive session afterwards.  Activities concluded for the day after Hari Krishnan, Vice Chair, IEEE RAS CET chapter, delivered the vote of thanks.

Ham Live Demo

The event started with a welcome speech from the communication society chair. This was followed by a session by the members of Radio Amateur society of Ananthapuri (RASA), Joseph Daniel and Shaju. They started off with a general introduction on ham radio, Morse code and the relevance of ham radio in the modern world where a variety of communication options are available.
A brief explanation of the steps to take and the tips and tricks to follow for the exams to obtain the ham radio license were given. A live demonstration was carried out and we were able to contact a ham operator living in Attingal.
The audience were keen on asking doubts and so were the guests on clearing them. 15 students participated in the session including those who will be appearing for the examination on the 31st of July 2015. The session was concluded with a vote of thanks by the secretary of communication society, SBCET.

Python Workshop

A python workshop was conducted for IEEE Members of CET. The session gave the participants a basic idea on how to write a program in python. The session included the difference between python and other programing languages, about how it deals with data types, definition of classes and functions, data structures like list and tuple etc.
